Admission to Golaghat Engineering College is through selection of students clearing the Common Entrance Examination conducted by Assam Science and Technology University. The first batch of students enrolled themselves to this College for B.Tech 4 years degree course, in the month of August in the newly opened branches of Civil, Mechanical and Chemical Engineering with a total strength of 92 students.
Three 4 years B.Tech programs are carried out namely in Civil, Mechanical and Chemical Engineering with a intake capacity of 60 students in each discipline per year. In addition 18 students are admitted from E.W.S quota every year. Moreover 18 students get admitted every year through lateral entry.
The college has a spalling campus of 28.5 acers with proper boundary walls. Power backup is partially fulfilled with 2 numbers of solar panels of 14 kWh each. The college boast of its dedicated power supply line which is connected to the 33 kV line of Golaghat Electrical Grid System. Our institute has separate hostel for both boys and girls with intake capacity of 88 and 84 students respectively. In addition, 15 girls are accommodated in the college Guest House as boarders. In addition, two new hostels is of 100 boarder capacity are coming up within the next two years.
Golaghat Engineering College had started its NCC centre within 3 years of its inception. NCC camps are held at Golaghat Engineering College campus from time to time and firing range is also provided for the camps. Many of the students of the college compete in national level camps and have qualified and obtained their “C” certificates.
The college had been suffering from acute shortage of teaching faculties since its inception. Only 23 post of Assistant Professor was created and they were filled up by guest/part time faculties upto July 2024. At present there are 21 faculties working in this college. No Associate Professor or Professor has joined and worked in the college till date. Even with this minimal teaching strength Golaghat Engineering College is performing better than many other Engineering Colleges of the North East region. This can be substantiated and justified by the employability of the pass out students and selection of a number of students to prestigious institutions for higher study.
The College have started skill development program for unemployed youth within 45 days of its inception through a MOU with Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC), a CSR initiative of Airports authority of India. It has also signed a MOU with Tool Room Training Center (TRTC), Amingaon as future provision for its students to develop their hard and soft skills. MOU are also signed recently with PHED and GARUDA Aerospace Pvt. Ltd. for better exposure of students to industrial scenario.
Golaghat Engineering College since its inception had strived for Ecology and Environment within the campus. The college has planted nearly all the local fruit bearing and various medicinal trees. The whole campus is full of greenery and the ecological system of the campus is well maintained.
The institute provides value education so that the students not only excel in academic but also can contribute to the growth of the nation as an efficient Engineer and a good citizen. We aim to connect our students with reputable organizations and industries thereby ensuring a smooth transition from academic life to the professional world. The students are taught AutoCAD at the professional level in the 3rd semester and become conversant with softwares like Python, STAAD Pro, SolidWorks etc. as they proceed to higher semester. We facilitate internships with top organizations, such as ONGC, IOCL, NRL, OIL, and CPCB, enabling students to gain invaluable hands-on experience during their studies. Additionally, we provide opportunities for internships at premium institutes, such as IITs, NITs, and other Institutes of National Importance so as to broaden student exposure to advanced research and laboratory environments. In short, we strive to develop leadership and entrepreneurial qualities, so as to make a student employable.
